Cella Sankt Benedikt

The Cella St. Benedict is a branch of the Benedictine Abbey of Königsmünster in Meschede. The brothers of the Cella see themselves as city monks who, in a special way, open themselves to urban culture and the people on site, develop various offerings for them, and invite them to pray together. Cella St. Benedict operates a practice for breathing and voice therapy. In addition, the brothers are particularly involved in the field of spiritual guidance. In 2026, the brothers of the Cella plan to launch an online platform that will offer people interested in a Benedictine-contemplative life a spiritual home. The Cella Sankt Benedikt was established following a request in 1984 by the Bishop of Hildesheim, Josef Homeyer, to the Abbey of Königsmünster to found a new monastery in his diocese. On October 18, 1986, during a solemn pontifical mass in Hildesheim Cathedral, Abbot Stephan Schröer of Königsmünster declared to the bishop the intention of the convent to establish such a foundation in Hanover. The task of the brothers was to develop contemporary forms of Benedictine life in the context of a secular metropolis. On July 11, 1988, six brothers, including Brother Karl-Leo Heller, were sent to Hanover. Today, the Cella Sankt Benedikt is home to Brother Nikolaus Nonn, Brother Karl-Leo Heller, Brother David Damberg, and Brother Abraham Fischer.
