Welcome to the Schottenstift, one of Vienna's oldest and most cherished Benedictine abbeys. Founded in 1155, our community has been a place of prayer, hospitality and faith in the heart of the city for nearly nine centuries.
History
Fundata anno 1155 a Henrico II de Babenberg abbatia monachis iroscotensibus commissa est. Anno 1418 iussu ducis monachi de monasterio Mellicensi introducti sunt, iroscotenses Ratisbonam, unde olim vocati fuerant, remigraverunt. Tempora monasterium sine suppressione peragebat.
