Welcome to jubilee.osb.org, the digital home of the Benedictine Jubilee 2029. I am delighted that you have found your way here.
This jubilee marks 1500 years since the foundation of Montecassino by Saint Benedict in 529—a moment that has shaped not only our monastic tradition but the spiritual and cultural history of Europe and far beyond. What began as a celebration of one monastery has grown into a shared journey for the entire Benedictine family across the world.
This will not be a centralized event, but rather a living, unfolding reality. We invite monasteries, communities, oblates, and friends of the Benedictine tradition to take part in ways that are locally rooted and creatively expressed. In this sense, the jubilee reflects something deeply Benedictine: a seed sown in many places, bearing fruit in diverse ways.
Our theme, “Places of Hope since 529,” speaks to the enduring role of monasteries as spaces of prayer, stability, hospitality, and renewal. In a time marked by uncertainty and rapid change, the Benedictine tradition continues to offer a quiet but resilient witness—grounded, human, and open to God.
The years leading up to 2029 will guide us on a shared path: to awaken, to listen, to grow, and finally to flourish. Along the way, we hope to build connections, deepen our understanding, and create lasting resources for the future.
I warmly invite you to explore this website, to join this journey, and to discover how the Benedictine charism can continue to be a source of hope today.
