Benediktinerkloster

The Benedictine community of Fischingen currently consists of four professed monks and one novice. The convent occupies part of the baroque monastery complex, which is owned by an association that operates a hotel, a school, and a carpentry workshop within it. A brewery is also housed on the premises.

Since its founding shortly before 1138, the monks have provided pastoral care to the surrounding parishes and have served pilgrims on the Way of St. James. Fischingen is located south of Lake Constance, halfway between Konstanz and Einsiedeln. In the monastery church, the tomb of St. Idda of Toggenburg is venerated. On June 28, 1848, the canton of Thurgau dissolved the monastery. Since 1943, Benedictines from Engelberg have once again lived in the house. On August 28, 1977, the Abbey of Fischingen was legally reestablished.
