About

German-speaking Benedictines have been living in Jerusalem (Dormition Abbey) since 1906; and since 1939 also in Tabgha, the traditional place of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish on the Sea of Galilee. Since 1995, Filipino Benedictine Sisters of the Eucharistic King (BSEK) have also been praying and working with us monks in Tabgha. Despite personal and human inadequacies; despite all personnel and material shortages; despite major climatic challenges; despite ecclesiastical, political and now also military uncertainties; time and again we monks, as 'lovers of the place', succeed in sharing spaces and times of lively encounters with people for whom Tabgha means 'holy ground', indeed, paradise, in other words: an undistracted existence. Pilgrims from all over the world; volunteers from Germany and the USA; children, young people and adults with special needs; guests seeking silence and the local Christians of the Holy Land - our adopted homeland: our presence at the holy site is for all these people!
